Without a Catch
I sing you a song of Bristol Bay
where the Salmon fishery thrives in its way.
Nearly two thousand fishers securely employed
by the salmon boats, yearly deployed.
Northern Dynasty wants an open pit mine
for molybdenum, copper and gold so fine.
The United Tribes of Bristol Bay
oppose the mine and get their say.
Fishers say it will cost them their jobs
and the health of the land it surely robs.
To preserve and protect this golden bay
they expect no help from the EPA.
This poem appeared in The Weekly Avocet several weeks ago. I have since read that EPA Direct Pruitt held a closed door meeting with the CEO of the company and gave the project a green light.
