Without a Catch

As published in The Weekly Avocet. #250, August 1, 2017.

                    Without a Catch

I sing you a song of Bristol Bay
where the Salmon fishery thrives in its way.

Nearly two thousand fishers securely employed
by the salmon boats, yearly deployed

Northern Dynasty plans an open pit mine
for molybdenum, copper and gold so fine.

The United Tribes of Bristol Bay
oppose the mine and get their say.

Fishers say it will cost them jobs
and the health of the land it surely robs.

To preserve and protect this golden bay
they expect no help from the EPA.

(I have been hearing a lot about Bristol Bay and the proposed mine there. Bristol Bay is the Eastern most arm of the Bering Sea and from the pictures I have seen it is an extremely beautiful area and a productive salmon fishery. An article appears here)
