New Author Bio

Picture
I was asked to write a bio to accompany a poem which will appear in the Chattanooga Writers Guild contest anthology for 2016. I have not written one in a while, and this one is a new bio all together.
I had to customize it for the publication, so this is not exactly wa will appear in the anthology.
Ray Zimmerman has spent a lifetime observing, photographing and writing about the natural world. As an outgrowth of his conservation ethic, he is currently Vice President of The Chattanooga Audubon Society. He is the producer for their annual event, Little Owl Festival.

Ray's photographs have appeared in the Tennessee Conservationist and the Photographic Society of America Journal. His prose works have appeared in Photo Traveler newsletter, Los Angeles, California, Legacy: The Journal of Interpretation, Fort Collins, Colorado, The Hellbender Press, Knoxville, Tennessee, and other numerous other periodicals.

Ray’s poems have appeared in The Avocet, the Weatherings anthology from FutureCycle Press, The Southern Poetry Anthology: Volume VI, Tennessee, Texas Review Press, Soundtrack Not Included, Nashville Writers Meetup, A Tapestry of Voices, the Knoxville Writers Guild, and other literary publications. He served as Executive Editor, Southern Light: Twelve Contemporary Southern Poets.

Ray has read and performed his poetry at numerous local and regional venues, including the Southern Festival of Books, Nashville. He has served as a master of ceremonies at numerous events and currently produces and hosts the Fifth Tuesday event at Star Line Books, Chattanooga.

I wonder what are the things that come up to an author's mind every time he needs to write a poem or even a novel. I wonder what inspiration or motivation actually takes place every time an author needs to express his/her thoughts. I have been dreaming of becoming an author myself someday. I would like to write poems that will enable me to express my inner thoughts and feelings about random things. I think it is really nice to be able to do those writings. I hope as well that I will be able to get some tips from you. Thank you so much in advance.

Your specific questions brings to mind The Triggering Town by Richard Hugo. His description (paraphrasing) of writing a poem is something like setting out to go one place, ending up in another, and realizing that where you ended up is where you really wanted to be. Hugo taught at the Iowa writer's workshop for years.
